Common Symptoms of tight SCM

Sterno-cleido-mastoid (SCM), the neck muscle that stabilizes your head, brings your chin to your chest, and turns your head left and right.  It also, as you can see, can be a real pain in the neck,  the head, the face, etc.

  • Tension headache
  • Muscles sore to touch
  • Persistent, dry, tickly cough
  • Nausea and loss of appetite
  • Seasickness or car sickness
  • Pain refers to top of the head, back of the head, cheek and over the top and behind the eye
  • Sinus congestion on affected side, chronic sore throat from referred pain rather than infection
